So started ripping apart an old Craftsman 1/4” Drill to polish out...

And get it all apart with ease, til I started with the brush holders. Tapped the first one out most of the way, and carefully took some pliers to it and crack! Pieces everywhere. Second one came out mostly intact but was still missing a chunk.

Any good reasonably priced sources for replacements out there? Or am I bribing a buddy with a 3D printer to make me new ones?

So in case anyone has a source other than whats on the first 4 pages of google search results...

7/8" total length (22-23mm)
5/8" OD on bottom half, slight taper on bottom (15-16mm)
3/4" OD on top part (19ish MM)
1/2-20 thread for the cap
holds a 1/4" x 1/4" brush

Seems like most places that still sell them have larger ones for industrial applications

I'm thinking that a brush holder might be a perfect job for someone with a 3d printer if you can't find a replacement for sale.

Brushes tend to be pretty universal in size and shape but the holders are pretty specific. Is there enough left of them that you can glue them back together?

The one I can put epoxy on the bottom and sand til it’s the right size. May have to recreate the other one with epoxy. At least the sizing is easy to make a mold out of wood, heavily wax and squeeze the epoxy in. Tap the top, sand the taper on with the belt sander. Was just trying to avoid all of that lol.

My progress so far on it. I searched those sites this morning and nothing on the holders unfortunately. The brushes are pretty common, which is a good thing thankfully.

Dang that thing is starting to shine!

It would be tedious, but maybe you'll have to fab some holders? I hope you get it fixed.
