Electric motor disassembly

I replaced the motor in my whole house fan recently due to the old one being noisy and not wanting to start - there was screeching involved so I suspect the bearings are bad. I don't know if I'll even try to fix it - it's only a quarter horse and it doesn't have any mounts built in. It seems fairly straight forward to pull it apart but I'm not sure about the capacitor - it's listed as a 10MFD/370VAC. Does this have to be drained before I mess with the motor?

it is a starter capacitor, there is no draining involved, but I would short it to ground after removing the power at the panel as they can hold a charge that will kick your *** across the room

Capacitors can hold a charge, even after being unplugged. Just take a metal object (screwdriver with a rubber handle works well), and short the wires across using the steel part of the screwdriver. Takes a second, and is worth the peace of mind.

10 uF, that's a run capacitor. That one looks like and has the same rating for a compressor on a refrigerated incubator I replaced last year. Which is why I felt like clarifying.

Price it first,have an electric motor shop replace the bearings, then you've got a spare motor?
