What is the best (cheapest) way to attach a wire wheel to an electric motor that does not have a threaded shaft? It does have a cut for a set screw.

You can buy the small arbors that attach to the shaft from places like Mcmaster Carr and Grizzly Industrial for about $6, which does not include shipping. They usually come in sizes to fit either a 1/2" or 5/8" diameter motor shaft. You will also have to specify the size hole of the wire wheel, usually 1/2 or 5/8 also.

At least make up some type of home made guard around the wire wheel. Otherwise you will be picking wires out of your face and wires will be all over the shop. Dont even bother running a grinding stone without a guard.

Don't forget to figure in LH or RH thread, depending on which way your motor spins. Most of the cheap arbor adaptors on Ebay are RH. Many of the chinese ones have balance issues. BTDT.

I now pay the extra money for better quality adaptors, so I don't have to chase my wire wheel around the shop. I get mine from Zoro.
