I purchased 2 pairs of Hoveround MPV5 motors for the oldfart cart that I built.
My controller gave an error code indicating a short in the motor. When I tested the motors with a meter, only one of the 4 motors shows a resistance across the main windings. Presumably this means that 3 of the motors are junk. My question is this: If the motor is shorted, why does it still run? Secondly, could a resistor be added in-line to the wiring to continue using the motor? What size? Are the motors repairable? Thanks for any help.

You are going to have to find out if it is a Permanent motor or one of those new ECM/Brushless motor... maybe they come with some sort of speed sensor / brake in one package that you might have hooked up to the wrong wire ?

Just a guess...
