Maybe some of you with more experience can help with this. I acquired this motor last week. It's not a familiar brand (Ren Yih, model year 1988, Taiwan made) but as it's 2hp, I figure it might be worth hanging on to. The wiring in the photos is as I received it. It was not wired to a switch, plug, or power source, only to the cable shown. Unfortunately there was no schematic for the motor wiring.
The following two details were provided to me:
According to the previous owner, it is currently wired for 220v.
According to a note in the junction box previously located at the far end of the power cable, the white wire should be attached to the switch.
I am pretty much a novice when it comes to wiring motors but something just doesn't seem right. If I were to guess I would say this was currently wired for 110v. More over, if the white wire alone were connected to the switch, wouldn't that leave the motor hot. One possibility I suppose would be that they reversed the lines and then were too lazy to fix them (thus the note written in the box). What do you see?
The leads to the motor are currently grouped as follows:
(No.3) Yellow + (No.2) Black + (No.5) Dark Red
(Line) White + (No.1) Light Red + (No.8) Dark Red
(Line) Black + (No.4) Gray
I am interested in the proper assembly for both 110v and 220v.
