Electric On Demand Heater Install

Good day,

I'm in the process of installing an Electric On Demand Hot Water heater for my Radiant Heated floor.

My plan is to install a sheet of 3/4 inch plywood to the drywall and then install the heater and all of the devices to this plywood board. Is this a danger (fire) having the heater installed direct to the plywood or is the threat negligible.

Sorry, I should have said Electric Boiler, I thought there was no difference. This is the model I'm using.

I completely disagree.. I have 2 takagi TK jr at our cottage.. One is for hot water and the other is for baseboard heat. It is a basic heating system controlled one zone but plumbed for two via pipe and valve. These newer tankless hot water heaters are "modulating" meaning they sense the incoming temperature and only heat it to the desired temperature.. I.E. when the system turns on it is at full blast.. input is around 55 the house temp setting and the output is 180.. as the water makes a loop it cools the required/recommended 10 degress and the tankless then has 165-170 water coming in so the system turns itself down to a trickle of heating of the water. This system was installed by me about 7 years ago and has been problem free..

The electric water heater or boiler will have a clearance to combustibles rating. I suspect the rating will be zero inches for the rear which means you can mount it to wood. Mounting it to sheetrock is just as bad since sheetrock paper is a combustible.

They use Seisco electric boilers for their pre-made systems.
I bought their 9000Watt kit last year for my 840sqft shop and it worked great. Shop stayed at 60F all winter and there was hardly a dent in the electric bill.

Forgot to answer your question. My electric boiler is mounted directly to a 3/4" melamine board and the board is then mounted to the wall with lags.
So I don't see any problem with your plan of using plywood.

Thanks to all for the reply's. I went ahead and mounted a sheet of plywood to the wall last night and after a few coats of paint I'll go ahead and slap everything up on it.

79rallysport, glad to hear you've had great success with your setup. I'll be using mine to heat a 600 sq ft garage and hope the heating costs wont me much. Oh and here's hoping the Baby SENS have a banner year!
