I need one soon.
I like HF for some things but as a rule, normally i stay away from electric tools from there. But i think i may try this one. I don't need to drop 1-2 hundred bucks (or more) for the few times i'll need it. I don't want battery powered.
I know Fein and Bosch are good but i can't justify spending that much right now for something i need for just a couple of projects around the house.$29.99 next week at HF. The online reviews on this particular tool are good with very few negatives. Any one here have one?

I got one about a year ago from HF. I've used it many times and expected it to burn up long ago but it's still ticking (or humming). I figure if it dies, it's cheap enough to replace. BUT, if I needed one for a daily job, I'd get something that's a better quality.

Thanks Don:thumbup:
I have just a few jobs around the place that would be much easier with that tool.
If it lasts that long, i'll be thrilled, and maybe by then i'll be in a position to buy a better one.

thanks again

The Rockwell SonicCrafter has been getting good reviews. I've picked it up in the store, it looks rather nice and sturdy compared to the HF tool. I have the Bosch PS50 and love it. I just wish the accessories were not so expensive.

One advantage of the Rockwell is its ability to use all or almost all brands of accessories right out of the box.

^Bought one too, but haven't yet plugged it in. Agree on the "brick *********" feel to it. The Dremel version feels like a Tonka toy in comparison. I thought I read you need adapters to use the other brands of accessories (maybe yours came with them).

I got one for $30 with a coupon and I LOVE it. I have never handled the more expensive ones, but the cheap HF one feels plenty sturdy to me. I have used it for many tasks for far and it has worked nicely. The plunge cutting is where this type of tool really excels, at least for me. I just used it tonight to plunge cut into a ceiling with both plaster and drywall sandwiched together (no wire mesh), and it did the job. Anyway, I highly recommend it. I also chose to get the extra 2yr no questions asked full replace warranty for an extra $10 or less.

i bought the HF oscillating tool a few weeks ago (shortly after starting this thread) and it worked flawlessly. I got the jobs done i wanted to do, and the oscillating tool was a difference maker. Nothing like this tool when you need it for plunge cutting. I was cutting small wood trim (quarter round), notching baseboard, and trimming door casings and still have never changed blades, although i will probably put on a new one on the next project i need it on.
Like i said in my original post-i normally stay away from anything electric from HF, but
This one, i can recommend.

I bought a reconditioned dremel for 59 bucks and love it. It's a little more than the HF but in my eyes it was worth it, been burned by too many HF products to gamble on things like this anymore.

The Fein Multimaster which I have is the king of these tools and gets the most positive reviews.Quicker changes on the attachments too,a lever to pop instead of using a wrench which is quicker.Bosch has the cordless and I read bad reviews on it,the batteries do not last.Craftsman has the same review which is cordless also

I've seen the Fein and it's very nice. The best price I could find for it was around $320, which is about 10 times the price of the HF tool. Can't justify spending that much for an occasional use tool.
