Electric panel location for red steel building

I'm helping my daughter and son in law run electric to their new red steel building. I've never done work in a structure like this so the first thing is where to mount the sub panel. we are going to run conduit up to the purlins for lighting. For the switches and plugins it will all be surface mounted in conduit along the steel girts.

So my question is, should I mount the sub panel box flush faced with the girts and columns like you would do in a wood and sheetrock type of structure or should I push the panel out somehow so that the knockouts on the top and side of the panel are just right out in front of the red steel to make the conduit runs easier?

I mounted mine on a backboard with Unistrut running from the middle girt to the floor so the panel was proud of the girts allowing the conduits to run up with a little kick to get get back to the face of the girt(s).

@mccorb, I like your idea, but remember not all conduits are going to be 1/2". So allow for 3/4 and maybe 1" to enter the KO's centered. You'd hate to have to bend them inward. But an offset is an offset, no matter which way.

You'll have to decide once you buy the panel.

Thanks for the unistrut idea. That's what we're going to do. Now that I know what it is I watched a couple of YouTube videos on it. I now see it everywhere I go.
