Electric Reel question (CL score)

I picked up this Condutix spring activated reel off of CL for $100. It is bigger than anything I have ever seen (I just do weekend hobby work in my garage), probably weighing around 50-60 pounds. It has a 12/2 20 foot cord. I was thinking about switching the outlet out for a double gangbox. I thought I read somewhere that you could not use a regular metal gangbox for this but I cannot find anything online to confirm. Can I use a regular gangbox?
Thanks

Why couldn't you use a double gang box, maybe an outdoor type for wet location? I would look for a cord bushing with the cable type strain relief. BTW, that thing is a beauty!

Saaaweeet Reel!!

The only reason I could see avoiding a metal gangbox is that it would be expected to lay on the floor at times and contact moisture (?) I think I would just leave it and get a 2' "T" pigtail.

I would take the cord off a 6 plug power strip and put the power strip on the end of your reel. You would have a built in cercuit breaker on the end of it and it would be made of heavy plastic to boot. Cheap and easy and lighter than a gang box.

I would leave it,,, is this something you want flexible and easy to pull around or want a clunky box with several items plugged in at the same time.

code wise you can use a bell box (outdoor type) with a threaded knock-out and a listed strain relief. I would also use a stainless cover plate. also if you are going to have a continuous heavy load on the cord, pull most of the cord from the reel other wise you a creating inductance and it can get very warm.

nice cord reel.........Icky

Yeah I would just leave it as-is and simply get a plug-in T adapter if you need more plugs. No need to fix something that isn't broken.

Good move no reason to make it a cluster**** by putting a box on the end, they are very expensive so you did good.
