Electric Roll Up Door Opener - Recommendations Please

The pics are not the best but I'm out of town and these are all I have at the moment.

The door as it sits right now is HEAVY and uses a chain hoist type system. I think the spring inside the assembly might be broken but I have not had a chance to look at it. If the door is all the way up, and I let go of the chain, the door will come crashing down at mach 10. So yeah there might be something wrong with it.

Anyway, Im looking at remote controlled openers for this roll up door, and there are ALOT of options out there and I have no idea where to start.

If you guys who have a similar type of door can chime in and let me know what brand/type of opener you use, or recommend, I would really like to hear about it. I need to get pointed in the right direction here. Im sure the door itself is going to need repair, but I want to figure out what kind of opener I need so I don't waste money trying to repair the door, only to find out that I should have replaced it with a different type of assembly.

Thanks!

Sure sounds like it. I have essentially no first-hand experience with roll-up doors; but I would certainly presume that for safety reasons, if nothing else, they would use a torsion-type spring to provide a counter. NO garage door, regardless of type or application should "come crashing down at mach 10", especially if there is considerable mass/weight involved. That could quite conceivably kill someone.

Anyway, Im looking at remote controlled openers for this roll up door, and there are ALOT of options out there and I have no idea where to start.

I would strongly suggest getting your door checked out by a competent pro. If, as we both suspect, it is lacking an effective and properly operational counterforce spring, no opener you could find will be able to cope with that anyway.

I doubt that will have much of an impact. Unless you're seriously contemplating going to an entirely different TYPE of door (say, a sectional overhead type, for example), and probably even in that case, the opener itself would not change all that much, as long as whatever door you go with still uses a torsional spring.

^^ Yeah I know its not right, and will be corrected, but I wanted to get suggestions on lifts for the door before I started working on it.

Taking in all the information first, then make a decision on how to move forward and all that...

Yeah I know... Even right now its not really bothering me to have to hoist it like it is, and there is a chain lock to keep it up. So its safe enough. I just want an electric door opener.

If my property is completely closed and locked, I have 2 gates, and then the shop door. Thats 3 times I have to get in and out of the truck to get into the shop. Its a pain in the ***... All the gates and doors will eventually be electronic, but Im starting with the shop door first.
