Electric to detached Garage

Can anyone help me with determining what electric I need to run to my new garage? Currently there is a single 20AMP circuit coming from a subpanel off of a 150AMP main. The wire looks like 14-3 run in 1" conduit.

The subpanel looks full. I jsut want to have 8 4 bulb flourescents and enough juice to run some power tools and a possibly a compressor and mig welder.

Can I just replace the 20amp breaker with a higher anmp and run 10-3 wire and call it a day?

Thanks

I would do some searching here. There are loads of topics that will help you. 10-3 is only good for 30 amps. Probably not enough to run a compressor and a welder at the same time.

Thanks. I probably won't be using both at the same time...I really just want the lights and one power tool, like the compressor or a table saw. I'll do some digging. Thanks again.

Better descriptions would help. Is the garage detached, or attached? Is the subpanel and the main panel both in the house? Both panels full?

Edit: Sorry, I just noticed the title tells us the garage is detached.

I have a similar situation and am looking for the same guidance.

Circuit already in detached garage with no subpanel, likely 20A because only runs some lights and a garage door opener with some outlets.

Charles, Thanks for the response, both the panels are full and located in the house. This was originally for an 8x14 shed, that had a couple lights and a single outlet. I'm not looking for enough juice to power the new garage as a full time workshop yet, I just was hoping to get those 8 4-bulb flourescents and a 6 outlets running with minimal interuption and hassle from the sub and the main. Think its possible?
Thanks
