my box is not near any wall. the 120v power i have comes from a reel down from the ceiling. i have the cord wrapped around a hunk of oddly shaped steel.

i want to remove this hunk of steel off my box. i am going to add pieces of angle iron to the back corners of the box, 12" or so up. to build a shelf.

anyway. i am trying to think of a way to attach the 120v cord to this shelving angle iron.
it needs to be easy removal. and not attached in a way that would wear through the cord.

thanx for any good ideas.

Some of the medical carts we test at work have power strips riveted or screwed to the back, because of all the goodies (computer, monitor, etc) that need to be plugged in. Could you just permanently attach a power strip to the shelf you're making, and then plug the power strip in into the 120V drop as you need power?

Pretty basic, but this box has been hanging off the back lip of my welding bench for over 10 years. My welding bench is an old mid 50's Craftsman roller (with a 1/2" steel top...)

Detaches or reattaches in an instant, and there is enough cord to carry it a few feet out into the driveway. I have one 20A outlet, and one 15 in the box.

thanx guys. but what i am wondering about. is along the lines of tethering the cord to my box. like, by a hook or something. then plugging a power strip into that. then if i need to move, i just unplug and unhook.

i think i am just going to tie a knot in the cord. and then hook that on a D-ring that i will weld to the shelf metal.

If you want to hack something together, use something like a long towel rod with velcro zip ties.

Pics of what you are trying to accomplish? I'm not following you too well.

no pics yet.

think, a cord coming down from the ceiling, a tool box. how do i attach the cord to the box ? it must be easy to remove and not damage the cord.

oh. the cord, being on a reel, does have tension on it, at least some times.

Use a "kellums grip" it's like a chineese finger trap. It's flexable enough for your cord and has an attachment point for hooks, snaps etc. Check grangers or an electrical warehouse.
