Electric tool storage?

Over the last 30+ years I have gathered a large assortment of electric tools (drills, grinders, saws, etc) that covers the whole spectrum of uses. Some have plastic cases, some have metal cases, some have nothing. I want to build a dedicated "Electric Tool Cabinet" with several large drawers to easily obtain the needed tool when needed. Just wondering if anyone has any examples of the system you may use. I will then follow up with a dedicated "Air Tool Cabinet" for all my nail guns, etc.

Happy New Year. :bounce:

You may want to check out this project from the New Yankee Workshop:

While it's not exactly what you are asking about, it could easily be modified to fit your needs.

You can use the large drawers at the bottom for loose tools, and modify the top to hold tools in cases.

IMO tools in cases are so bulky I can't justify trying to cram them in drawers. Store 'em on shelves or ditch the cases. For electric tools not in cases they're so bulky I can't justify wasting space in a production rollaway toolbox (Craftsman, Snappy etc) so I vote old filing cabinets picked up at auctions cheap.

How about a nice Gorilla Shelf Unit with adjustable shelves. Then skin the sides with some plywood and hang a couple of plywood doors for the front. Maybe a couple of mid-section tool boxes side by side on one shelf to handle bits and pieces.

X2
I even have thought about doing a padded liner in the drawers so the tools dont "clang around".
