Electrical box location question

Hi all, I have a conundrum. While demo-ing the shower walls for a bathroom remod, I found a electrical box in the wet wall.
This box is handling the power feed for the attic level buildout done some time back. This does not seem kosher..... Am I wrong to worry about this?

When you say "found", do you mean that this box is buried and not exposed on the other side? As zmaxmotorsports says, so long as the box opens up on the other side, simply being opposite a shower is ok. Not ideal, but ok.

Remember, simply because there is plumbing in the wall, does not make it a wet environment. It SHOULD be as dry as any other wall.

I do not like that piece of romex that is snaked through the same hole as the hot water pipe though. Not one bit.

It opens on the other side which happens to be a linen closet.

I was denied some important need to know information.
A coat closet is a big no no for a service panel in most places ,unless of course it was installed there 50 years ago.;)

yeah closets are THE WORST place for a panel and have not been allowed to be in that location since the late 60s early 70s for obvious reasons....

What brand of panel is it?

Yup.

Pretty sad actually, considering that panel was installed quite recently.

How big is the closet. You could still use it as a closet but wouldnt be up to code, just dont put anything in front of it. People used to pile clothes in front of panel and would start fires. But as long as you keep a 30 inch clearance around it i dont see a reason not to use the closet.

It's pretty small. It's at the end of the hall and three feet deep or so.
