I rent space in a 50x100 garage. I have a lift that runs on 220. It is a 14.1amp draw, per the motor plate. I run my lift using an 80 foot SWOOJ 12/2 cord to plug into a 220v recepticle across the garage when I need to use the lift.
I now have a 5 hp 220v air compressor (22.3amp) to throw in the mix. The recepticle I am plugging into is actually a 50amp circuit btw. So, If connected the compressor and lift and used 10 ga., I couldnt use the lift while the air compressor is on.
If I were to tie the compressor to the lift using 10ga. romex to the junction box on the lift, would I then need 8 ga SWOOJ to plug in across the shop???
I found an ebay seller that sells 8/2 romex buy the foot for 99 cents/foot with free shipping. If I ran a 40 amp circuit, How would I wire the lift? Would I run the 8ga to a recepticle by the compressor and then pipe 12/2 for the lift over to the recepticle??
Anyone have any thoughts???
