Electrical Help

I'm building a 4 x 4 x 6 powder coating oven in my garage. Sometime this year, if me and the realtor can agree I'll actualy build my business location, but for now I'm working out of my small, but well equipped 2 car garage. Anyways, just a general question;
I have 240v/100a single phase at the house. I'll be using 4 3100 watt elements. If my calculations are correct, that's about 52 amp draw, plus another 1.5 amps for lights/fan. Add 10% for a safety margin, then a 60 amp breaker should keep her running without burning down the house. Anybody see any problems with the rest of the house while the oven is operating...ie...lights dimming, flickering ect???

If you have an electric range in your kitchen, things could get dicey if you're cooking at the same time you're baking a coat; or if you have electric heat, or other heavy load in the place. One hundred amps is a bit short for todays demands, and 200 is only marginal in a lot of cases.

Yes, you may have a problem. You need to run at least a 70 amp breaker. Your not suposed to run the breaker/circuit at more than 80% capacity.

Another thing to look into is the size of the transformer that feeds your home. Lots of places they REALLY overload them. The old house I was renting had 5 homes one ONE 15kVa can!

I'm interested in building a small oven myself. What are you planning on using for inside insulation. And what kind of elements did you get. I'm using a std oven now but its just to small.

Thanks for the insight guys. I've decide to scale down my oven to 4x4x4. That way I can use only 2 3100w elements and run them off of 50a/60a breaker, at least until I find a suitable location for my business, then the big one is on!
