Electrical inspection pitfalls

I have my electrical inspection tomorrow for concealment.

First time I have done electrical inspection

I have nail plates I have secured every 4 feet and within 8 inches of boxes.

I accidentally put up led panel lights and connected them before I knew that was a no no. I will open back of junior boxes and beg for forgiveness.

I don't connect anything to the subpanel right? I have run the power to sub panel and mounted it.

Anything else I need to do?

I really want to pass so I can hook up the outlets and cans over the holiday.

It won't hurt having the subpanel hooked up,as they check it on final anyway. All they are looking at for a rough is the wire and pipe

I am not sure if nail plates are even required, but they are a good idea.

If you're not going to doing any cover work I.E. sheetrock etc, then why are getting a rough-in inspection?

I am doing sheetrock. No I did not connect ground wires. I have him at 12 30 today so I will plan to do that if I have time

In my limited experience, he'll pass whatever you have done so long as he can see you have everything grounded.

Hooking up fixtures and stuff "prematurely" so you can get some light to the area is ok. Just be prepared to pop the fixture or box cover off if he feels the need to check your connections.

Inspectors are generally very forgiving/understanding of homeowners doing their own work.

I honestly think inspecting "do it yourselfer" work is the most fun they get to have at their job.

Good news. Unfortunately he was supposed to be here between 12 30 and 2 30 and he came at 11 30 and was here for a total of 20 seconds. By the time I climbed out of the rafters opening junction box covers he was gone. Now I am waiting in hopes he returns.

I haven't connected all the ground wires and wouldn't have time to do all anyway but if he doesn't return I will plan to do that over the weekend. I was hoping to install all my outlets if I passed today but knew that would be a Longshot.

I doubt he'll be back today. He's trying to get an early start on the holiday. I hope they don't charge you for a missed inspection.

What county are you in? I'm in PW.

Wow what a sweet gift. so he was early and came back on time. He gave me a pass with the contingency that a few outlets are left open to check ground. He was fine with all the lights connected just had to open one up. This gets me ahead of the curve by 4 days for the holidays. Hopefully I can get all outlets and light switches and fans connected and get it finaled next week.

Not a big deal for many but I have been f ING with this electric for a LONG time.

My son's plumbing final was <5 minutes. He checked to see that there were new shutoffs on the furnace and water heater and that the laundry tub was bolted down to the floor. I don't think he flushed a toilet or turned on a faucet.

Congrats. My experience with Fairfax and Prince William inspectors is they are pretty friendly and helpful for home owners. Contractors are a different matter.

So when is the drywall going up?

It was quick and easy.

Drywall was up on the ceiling in the areas where there wasn't an attic floor.

This is for spray foam to have a backing. Nothing on the walls yet.

I will try and finish the electrical this weekend and get my final next week.

The spray foam guys 9nly need a couple days and I will get that done and then drywall the rest.

I was shocked it was that simple and he wasn't mad at all that I had drywall and about 20 led panel lights up and 15 can lights.

He was very helpful.
