I need to run a dedicated 20 amp outlet in my house. The run goes from one end of the house to the other which is roughly 100 feet. I am trying to find out what guage romex I need to run. I am guessing 12, but I wanted to see what you guys have to say?

Thanks,

John

If the equipment at the dedicated outlet can run efficiently at 6 volts lower than the load center, 12 AWG copper will be sufficient. Increasing the wire to 10 AWG you would still drop 4 Volts over 100 feet.

I tend to overdo things and go heaver. But with the increase price of copper today, I may think twice.

How much load will be on the circuit (watts or amps, use Ohm's law to figure)

Voltage drop is directly related to the amount of load for a circuit of a given distance.

For a single receptacle, #12/2 should be fine. (11A or 1320 w) gives you 3.6v of drop, which is the maximum allowed.
