Electrical permit question

I live in Orange County, FL for reference. We live in a town home, wife listed as the owner.

What I'm looking to do is add a 20 amp breaker to the sub panel which already has a 15 amp and two 30 amps that are tied together for the AC unit. Then run new wiring (romex) up to the attic space to do a new run on one wall and the run along the front wall can come out from the existing outlet which will be replaced by a break out box(I think thats what they are called).

Each wall will have three boxes with a single gang outlet connected via conduit. The left side wall will have a drop of conduit from the ceiling and then run across the wall to the other two outlets. The breakers will be/are GFCI breakers. Looking at like $300 in materials maybe, haven't worked out exactly how much but it's not terrible.

So...with that I want to not break any building codes or laws so do I need to get an electrical work permit or some sort of permit? I'm not replacing the sub panel but I might if a permit is required and a new outdoor panel for Square D is $37 at lowes.

So...people that know these things in FL...what say you? Can you point me in the correct direction. I do up want to break any laws.

Everyplace is different. A call to the building dept is the best place to start. You may not even need a permit.

This the best advice, unless someone that lives in your immediate area knows what they are talking about.

Here in Syracuse, I can do whatever I need to in my own house. I would need to pull a permit to work on someone else's single family home in the city..

Out side the city of Syracuse, I can do work without permits.. NYC, I can't even think of doing electrical work without getting a permit..

Different everywhere.

Pull a permit around here and the appraial district will jack your taxes next year. Be careful when "pulling a permit" for small stuff.

It is not the cost of the job....it is the liability that happens as a result of the job. Thus the county/city wants it on record that a job was done, inspected and is safe....so that the next person who buys the house knows that the job was done correctly and was inspected.

If it is a town house, you had better get a permit or you will likely be in violation of the Owners Association.

I did ask the HOA company and they said their concern is what's outside the town homes.

I think I found the fees for Windermere but I need someone to help me understand it. But I'll call this week(from a pay phone with voice changer!!)- not reall

Wow, you're right! Just replacing a sink or ceiling fan can easily go over that price!

Ask if homeowners can pull building permits.

Ask if homeowners can pull electrical permits.

Ask the threshold for each.

Ask the fee structure for each.

Ask the turnaround time.

Yeah eff that. A paint job would meet their threashold of needing a permit.

In the "big city" here, a homeowner can get an electrical permit but they have to take a class first. I think that's a decent idea, having seen plenty of DIY stuff that says "I didn't pass the class".
