I'm interested too. I can only imagine what they must cost- the liability on that company for those tools must be astronomical...

I work for the Federal Aviation Administration. Most of the insulated tools are Cementex brand.

i only have one question what would you need an insulated hack saw for?

My only guess would be for pulling additional feeders in hot panels and using the saw to cut the new cables. Although I think they have insulated wire cutters for the bigger feeders also.

arc flash is a huge issue nowadays. well, people are more aware of it.

one thing that baffles me.

they make you wear that face sheild to protect your face, however, if there was a flash hot enough melt plastic(plastic melts at very low temps), that face sheild would be melted to your face and life would **** *** from then on.

In the FAA, we have been moving toward shutting equipment down before working on it. In most cases, this type of work is performed after midnight to minimize impact to the flying public. Some things simply cannot be turned off. Risk assesment procedures are followed before working on live equipment. The plastic of the helmet and face shield is arc flash rated and does not simply melt like a regular helmet and face shield.

What have you used the hacksaw for? Also if you can, any details about what you do for the FAA? Just curious, I was an electrician helper about 10 years ago and we had a contract to test out the GPUs at the local airport every 3 or 6 months.

i would never use a hack saw to cut wire it would take way to long compared to cable cutters. you also dont want to cut wire with a saw because of the metal shavings. they can get in between the strains and when you tighten up the connection it could loosen up over time because to the shavings.

I work on engine generators, switch gear, large UPS systems, electrical distribution systems, HVAC (from small units to large boilers and chillers), towers and structures, lighted navigational systems, and a multitude of other things.

The hacksaw came with the kit and I haven't found a use for it yet.

its to protect your face from metal vapor spray (among other things). if you've ever seen copper coated drywall you'll know what im talking about.

Speaking insulated of tools, this set has been up for a couple months but has been dropping in price about $100 per month, soon I don't think they'll go any lower since I believe the seller is a pawn shop.
