Electrical To shop, pulling wires ect?

Trying to see if this is even an option . i don't have 220 in my shop but there is power. i have a 220 circuit on my mother in laws house that I don't need. In theory cant i pull off that 220 circuit from the mother in law unit and run that two a new panel in the shop for 220 and two run lights off of? Just seeking advice. IM talking like 80 to 90 ft from the mother in law unit to the shop. no problem trenching.Thanks

Well there is no 220v in the US and 220v or 240v wont run residential lighting. You need 120v which is one hot leg and a neutral.

If this 240v circuit doesnt have a neutral then its a no go...

ive got to look into it just in the thinking mode now. Its 220 for a dryer plug. Actually already have power out there and curious if i might be able to pull that 220 for the dryer plug in the house, trench and conduit it. Run it to the shop so can run my compressor off it. Shouldn't be to much of a drop in voltage for it.

It depends what Code the State has adopted
Under the 2017 NEC You're only allowed to have 1 feed to a building so you would have to abandon the existing circuit (That changes whenever the 2020 NEC is adopted)

The dryer circuit may only be 3-wires and if so, cannot be repurposed for a 120v/240v subpanel. You nedd 4-wires
