As some of you may remember, when I added a second middle drawer to my toolbox is was to high for me to see in the top of the box. Patience paid off when I ran across the this Matco step on Ebay. I decided to build an Electrolysis Tank based on the instructions I found on this forum. This is a pic heavy thread.
The step originally had 2 4"x11" non skid tape on the top
I picked up a heavy duty storage container at Lowes as well as 1" conduit ground brackets, rebar, 8 gauge wire, and a few odd and ends.
I used a tablespoon of washing soda per gallon and my battery charger kept kicking off, I switched it to 6 volts and still had the same problem. I dipped out 4 gallons of the solution and replaced it with just water. Still after about 5 minutes the battery charger started kicking off again. I started removing rebar rods (the conduit brackets made that easy) until the charger would keep running.
Starting to bubble
After about 2 hours
3 Hours so far
24 Hours and hitting it with the 3M scotch pad
I ran over the whole piece with brass wire wheel, filled the rust pits with body filler, sanded, primed, wet block sanded, primed, and wet block sanded.
I painted it semi-gloss black, ordered rubber angle feet on ebay as well as a craftsman emblem. I also had two pieces of polished aluminum 1/16 diamond plate cut to 4"x11" to replace the non skid tape.
Thanks to everyone for such an informative site!!!
