I'm looking to purchase a variable speed electromagnetic drill. I'm on a budget like everyone else in the world, looking to spend no more than 600 dollars. Can anyone recommend a brand and tell me what i should look for in a used unit.

i know this one is a little above your budget to buy new, but maybe you can find one used. i work in ship repair and use one like this at work all the time. ship repair is hell on tools, and this model holds up to the abuse. a very capable, adjustable machine. a little heavy to carry to the job site tho, makes for a work out. it also comes in a version that has a 2 speed gear box for low speed, high torque.

I second the idea of looking on the used market. I got my Milwaukee for less than half your price point, with a bunch of annular cutters.

keep in mind if you are going to use a drill in a vertical position [ ex. drilling holes in a frame ], be sure to have it tethered in case of power outage.........and we use the grainger one at work, things do hold up to abuse quite well..........

or some jack @$$ unplugs the ext cord while you are drilling through the bulkhead. twice.

if drilling overhead or through a bulkhead, etc... be sure to use the safety chains.
