I saw an interesting beast at the nearest hock shop today. It was an 8 inch bench grinder labeled for 110/220, 3/4 HP and some other info that escapes me at the moment, but the actual brand of the tool was not legible, it has a COO sticker proclaiming to to be from tiawan, and an elephant logo sticker that was stick visible.
Does anybody have more info on this beast?

Thanks

"Made in Taiwan" pretty much sums it up...

Many of these are made for export/import, companies by just few if not one company(s). they are all about the same...

Dont know alot about that grinder but they have an Asian brand that I have seen called Elephant. Also, a 3/4hp 8" grinder isnt a beast. See: 1hp 8" grinder made by Jet, Grizzly, etc

My 8" Baldor is "only" 3/4 HP, but chances are, it's an actual rating, not the usual import "locked rotor amp draw just before something explodes" rating.

As for an Elephant, one of my Taiwanese import mill vises is an "Elephant". I believe it's just a catch-all brand name, like "Phase II".

Elephant is a large contract manufacturer in Taiwan. It's rare to find a machine/tool under that brand, but lots of other manufacturers like Delta, Jet and others have their stuff made by them. Look at the belts and other components inside of an imported tool and you'll sometime find Elephant branding.
