Elm327 wifi

I'm in the market for an ELM327 WIFI.

Does any forum member has any experience either good or bad with this adapters?

If you have one, beside Torque and other Andriod apps is there any PC program that you can use with the ELM327?

Can someone advice where to get one from a reputable seller here or via PM?

Thanks

Note: The thread title should read ELM327 NOT 237.

I dont think the elm adapters are intended to be used with a PC. I think they are intended for Android phones and tablets and use bluetooth, not wifi.

Many laptops have bluetooth, but I have no experiece with them.

I'm subscribed to be educated.

Nobody Else? :dunno:

Give us a decade or so to catch up to the fancy new stuff.

Actually betting we are split between rotunda grade gear and whatever is cheapest with little in the middle. I still have my old USB to PC OBDII, but may get one of these new ones once I have a better phone.

And? I hope you feel better about yourself for finding out I own stuff made in China. You obviously don't understand what I was saying and now you are angry.

Never seen one made in the US. The only issue I know of is some of the older adapters would not read ford CAN. Other than that they are all about the same. Get one from amazon and test it, if it does not work you can return it.

Never tried to use it on a PC, just torque

I've been looking in to these myself for some DIY diagnostics on my vehicles. Seems that the overwhelming majority of the ELM327 products typically found on Ebay and Amazon are cheap clones from China. Always seem to see varying reviews from them, either it works excellent or junk. Apparently the v1.0 code lacked copy protection and thats why so many are pirated copies. It's likely that any cheap copy will run the v1.0 and not the latest code version 2.0. There is no v1.5 that most advertise btw, progression was 1.0 > 1.3a > 1.4b > 2.0. The Elm chips are list price of 14.50+ so I think it's apparent those priced below that are likely not legitimate.

I'm not sure if there are many properly licensed "cheap" scanners being produced but you can check out Scantool.net. Their support is only available via forums, but that is more than you would get from the alternates it seems. They also have a multitude of specialty software suites for access to proprietary vehicle protocols. It can get expensive pretty fast depending on what you are looking for, but seems to be vastly more professional than the other options.

Only other thing to make note of would be the wifi models tend to be more expensive but are necessary to work with apple products while android can use the cheaper bluetooth alternatives. You should be able to use a laptop with the bluetooth version as long as you have it either built in or use an adaptor.

Depending on how much you were looking to spend this option may be more than what you were looking for, but should allow greater flexibility and support for future firmware upgrades.

I dont get angry , certainly over this triviality. But I try not to be a hypocrite or talk out of my ***. And you have no idea what I have given for this country.
But out of respect for the OP and the fact that I dont even know what you guys are talking about (elm 327) I will leave this thread.:headscrat

You looked up my old posts, you must have been at least a bit upset. I didn't start any threads claiming to be a patriot who likes to buy from China or claiming that China made the AK. I just gave some good reasons against it. I do buy made in USA whenever possible but sometimes it's not. Just like the person a few posts above stated that there isn't a Bluetooth adapter made in the USA.
