Laptop? I downloaded bluetooth apps to both the smartphone and tablet. They work like a charm.

Yes laptop and it's a corded model here is a link to the one I got

http://m.ebay.com/itm?itemId=350745789969

Another member on here had mentioned it like a week ago which is what prompted me to get this model I dunno maybe my computer is jacked or somethin

Link doesn't work for me.

Whats the connection on the laptop, USB?

Common issue is that while the connector is USB, it uses a USB to serial converter so the PC see's a funny serial port and likes to number and assign as it sees fit, often that is not compatible to the software.

Find a nice local nerd to do what they do and make it work, or learn about serial port assignments.

Win8 gets that a LOT. I bought two upgrades to Win8, both have been removed.

I use the BlueTooth version with my Galaxy tablet; using TorquePro for Android. Can't beat it for the $20 ($15 for ELM BT DLC & $5 for TorquePro App.)

It's no big name scanner, but it's nice to be wireless, it will read and clear engine dtcs, and the live data offers a decent amount of info.
