Have a stripped gear on an Elora ratchet. It is a 770-L1-P ratchet and I have already emailed Bloomer Tool who seems to be the only US distributor for Elora. Does anyone know any other ways to get a repair kit for this ratchet? Does anyone have any experience with Elora tools?

You might contact Elora directly for the closest dealer or warranty service in your area.

http://www.elora.de/site/en/kontakt.php

A couple of dealers in the USA:

http://www.bloomertool.com/ (you already mentioned these guys)

I have run across a couple of Elora tools from time to time; I live near a air base that has the German Air Force, so maybe some came out of there somehow... Elora, seems to be one of the less popular German tools brands... compared to, Stahwille, Hazet, Knipex, Gedore, Klann etc.

Thanks, I actually found samstag after I posted and was able to send them an email last night. They just got back to me and are quoting $40 + shipping for a rebuild kit. I am trying to see if they will cover this under warranty. I don't mind paying for rebuild kits but $40 seems excessive.

I would email Elora in Germany and see if they can do something for you (I wouldn't spend any money until I would see if is covered under warranty); heck the ratchet may not even be worth $40! :( German companies don't seem to have the all encompassing "lifetime warranty" that American tool companies have had historically but it is worth a shot! What do you have to lose?

Looks like this one? http://www.toolbench.co.uk/Elora-770-L1P-1-2in-Sq.-Dr.-Reversible-Ratchet-250mm-25333-PDRA25333/

Looks like on the UK website it is about $35 for the kit and the ratchet is about $80; strange how the kit is almost half the price of new! Go figure...

Exactly what I am trying to do. I just sent an email directly to Elora to see if they can do anything. I haven't heard back from Bloomer Tools, but the samstag manager would not help me and also directed me to Bloomer. It is pretty strange that the rebuilds cost half the price of the tool, but hopefully they will work with me. Here is what is listed on their website.

"ÜNormal wear and tear and / or breakage of the socket do not fall under the warranty. Tools which, as a result of their advanced age or inappropriate or non-conforming use no longer work, are not covered by the ELORA full warranty. We expressly refer all users to the operating manuals and safety instructions applicable to our products. The general safety instructions must be adhered to in all cases.

Below you will find a number of examples of use which are considered to be "non-conforming use" of tools: e.g

chisels, centre punches and / or drift punches applied to steels which are too hard or used for the wrong tasks
use of side-cutters for wires with hardness ratings that are not suitable
continued use of tools which are already partly damaged or broken
applying the wrong sized sockets to screw fasteners
tools which have been modified
use of sockets with impact screw drivers where they were designed for manual usen"

Still no word from Elora directly. Bloomer Tools replied and they directed me to a page to purchase a new ratchet. I have emailed back to see if the gear would be covered under warranty.

Just a quick update.
Glen from Bloomer Tools was able to get me a rebuild kit if I paid for the shipping and returned the stripped gear. Total cost for shipping on my end was about $10 which I think is fair for a rebuild kit. Interestingly, he mentioned my rebuilt kit is not covered under warranty as it was approved by Elora and replaced as a courtesy. This is a little bit different from what I am used to, but I guess it is just their policy.

Glen at Bloomer Tools kept me updated via email throughout the entire process. If you need any Elora products, do not hesitate to contact Bloomer Tools.
