Eltwin SureStart Connection on Air Compressor

I am trying to install a Eltwin SureStart soft starter on my Eastwood 30/60 scroll compressor.

(Back story) We use this compressor in our tire mounting trailer that we take to the track and out of about 12 million generators I have tried, only the HF Predator 9500 and an open frame champion 11,000watt will start it. Honda 7000eu, no. HF 8750 Inverter, no. I got a new Duromax 11w Inverter thinking it would be fine and it won't start it. Other large inverters won't touch it. The HF is fine with the Champion as a (noisy) gas hogging spare but I really worry that whatever "thing" that lets the HF9500 start it will eventually go away and then I will be stuck.

For some reason, I thought I was halfway smart with electric, but I am just not. Schematics below.

I am flummoxed on which wire is going to go to the Run Winding on the SoftStart(yellow)?

I think the RC from the SS would go to the red from the Run Cap? No idea on "common"?

Is the start capacitor going to go away?

Any help appreciated.

Seems to me you are mixing apples and oranges. Air-conditioning compressors are very different than air compressors.

The soft starter is designed for hermetically sealed refrigeration compressor its motors have 3 leads.

The motor of your air compressor has 6 leads so yes you will be confused.

My gut feeling is the two things are not compatible.

The issue you are having is related to the inrush start current which can be 4 to 8 times the FLA on the motor.

Even at four times the FLA you’re looking at 16KW for a couple hundred milliseconds

It is. You can hear it bleed off head pressure after it shuts off. Also if the generator shuts off for some reason while it is running, the compressor will not restart (with any generator)until you drain the tank of pressure - one of my early 9500 gensets had a habit of shutting off for no apparent reason about 3 minutes after a cold start, which often happened to be right in the middle of a refill. Finally got myself in the habit of shutting it off at the breaker at the end of the day to avoid this the next AM, but we sometimes forget.

EDIT**** I am going to punt on this project for a few weeks. We start our biggest/longest/most tires changed event of the year next week. I was doing maintenance on the compressor this week and thought if the softstart was easy to install and also didn't require a bunch of rewiring, I would try it when I could give it a good test. But since it looks like I will need to cut some wires and make it a little more permanent, I will hold off until I get back. Bonus to that plan is that the compressor is mounted in the nose of the gooseneck trailer, and even with the very temperate 80 degree high temps this week, it gets hot up there quickly. October will be a better time to mess around.
