Was thinking it would fit in soon to be built garage in storage area. Everyone seems to leave them outside but in Ontario I figure it would be happier (and more likely to start) in garage. Thoughts anyone. Would vent exhaust outside. Propane powered Cummins.

Read the manual. Most are going to say not to run in a structure. If its its own structure thats prob ok but your issue will be venting.

Mounted outside, if there's an exhaust leak, it's no big deal. Mounted inside, an exhaust leak means people die.

The closest thing I've seen to generators installed "inside" is with generators installed in custom structures that breathe a LOT of air. Usually at least one wall is basically open slats.

In an extended power outage my plan was to put the generator in my detached garage with a long enough cord to plug into the connection box on the house. Would keep the garage door open a few inches for fresh air. Also would open windows for exhausting.

If it is a detached garage without insulation it is "leaky" enough you can run the generator inside. It will stink like hell.

That is nowhere near sufficient to safely exhaust CO.
Can you make a lean-to attached to the garage to keep the generator out of the weather?

No one has an old piece of metal roofing, plywood, or some other sheet good and a bungee cord? Simple and quick rain shelter for your generator.

Mine has an exterior rated aluminum enclosure but i still plan on getting a roof over it in the future. These military generators are to pricy to leave outside. At 800lbs no ones walking away with it.

I am not sure what NFPA says about interior generators but I would be very careful in how this is done from a CO and fire protection standpoint. What kw are you getting? I am setting my outside 9kw Generac today.

Just grabbed my Generac manual and referenced for your reading pleasure, NFPA's 70, 10,30, 37 For stationary combustion engines and turbines, 54, 58, 68,70E,110 Standards for emergency and Standby Power Systems, 70E, 211, 220. That should keep you busy!

Just got through the first half or so, big no no inside anywhere, even under outside deck isn’t allowed. So I’ll make a well vented small room for it next to garage and propane tank. My spec says as a rough guide I should need around 25-30KW.
