My air compressor motor hummms. I put new caps on but it won't start, just hums. So I'm trying to pull the rear end bell to check the switch and clutch. I pulled the 4 bolts and was able to move the bell about 1/2". It will wiggle L-R, but won't come off. I tried tapping on it with my dead blow but it doesn't seem to move. It seems like something is really holding it, but I don't see anything. Can't bring myself to just wale on it yet. The motor is 10-15 y/o, and was outside under cover. It ran for a number of years, but not the last couple. But after I moved it inside 2 weeks ago it did pump up, but wouldn't restart. Then with no air it still wouldn't restart, just hum.

Any suggest for pulling the bell off?

It did before I started moving the rear bell. I have to remove the pulley as I noticed it moved in about what the rear move out. I suppose the shaft is galled into the rear bell. Should know later today.

Removed the pulley (nice challenge), then the front bell. The rotor / rear bell will move about 1/2", then feels stuck. Not ready to force it yet, but I will keep poking at it.
