Emerson Motor for? Ideas?

I picked this up last week...any ideas on its age and purpose? Thanks. It powers on and sound etc...

Looks like a water transfer pump. Becareful running it dry.

Yup, a water pump. Could have been used for anything that involves pumping water from one place to the next.

I wonder what kind of coupling is under that black tape - hopefully it's not just tape holding the pump shaft to the motor shaft. :)

I have no idea, for the money I paid it probably was worth it, someone may want this? lol. Any idea on year or a value lol Thanks guys!!

WAG the motor was made around 1951 and the value of this homebuilt transfer pump is whatever you can scrape out of it.

That was exactly how my grandma watered her garden out on the farm.

Out in country on farm, they only had rocker lift pump that pushed water up about 10 ft high, then over in pipe to "Wash House" that had 300 gallon tank in attic to store water. When she wanted to water the garden, she turned diverter valve in flow of water to go to centrifical pump like you have. It had enough pressure to run impulse sprinkler about 50 feet away in the garden. She grew the best red potatoes and tomatoes. Those were the days.

As for original use of that Emerson electric motor, it may have been in old school washing machine . . . . or who knows ??
