Emglo Compressor rebuild question

Anyone here ever rebuild an Emglo compressor pump? Looks like the only way to replace the rings is to do it with the connecting rods already attached to the crank and then try to slide the cylinder assembly over the two pistons (it is a 4 cylinder pump)!?? There is no bottom to the pump case, the base is solid.....Who would design a reciprocating assembly like that??

It's usually very easy with compressors as the bottom of the cylinder will be tapered to accept the rings(no ring compressor needed). Simply line up all your ring gaps and slowly slide the cylinder down onto the pistons, might have to give it a slight wiggle...and with 4 cylinders it may be easier to have a hand but it is very easy

What model pump are you dealing with? Emglo used a number of different pumps depending on what type of compressor you are asking about. Is this a belt drive pump or one of their roofing compressors?

It's a belt drive, model LU. Yes, they are tapered, but the new rings are huge, and very difficult try and wrangle the cylinders and poke the rings in...one broke trying to install yesterday which led me to try and remove the rods and do it like a "normal" reciprocating engine, only to find you can't put the rods back on the crank if you remove them and install the pistons into the cylinders on the bench.....

Yeah I believe all compressors are like that, any that I've seen anyways. The weight of the cylinder should be just about enough to push down onto the pistons if you can line everything up correctly

Have you tried YouTube? Lots of videos for compressor rebuilds, several Emglo specific.
