Emglo compressor tank rotted out

It's a 20 gallon with 2hp/220vac motor and a belt driven K2A-17P pump. It's very quiet so i'd like to keep it and replace the tank with a 40 gallon.

Thoughts on
a) good idea? And...
b) where to get a replacement tank (will any old generic work)?

Thanks,
-Kevin

I would remove the copper line from the pump to the tank and look inside that line and see if there any abnormal carbon or oil build up. If not, then the pump is not on its way out. I would find another tank for it. New tanks are hundreds of dollars but if you like it then it may be worth it. Otherwise, try to find a good used tank. If you decide to give up on it let me know!

Surplus Center has a 80 gallon/200 psi rated vertical tank for $400. Have no clue what shipping would cost.

That may work, but many bad pumps are on bad or iffy tanks because of owner neglect all the way around... Drained a ton of water from the last "bad pump" tank I bought. It still puts rust in my lines that my water separator/filter has to deal with. For $400 plus shipping you could probably buy a new replacement tank... Since the K2A's are usually over $1000 new a replacement tank is probably reasonable just don't expect to get your money out of it if you try to flip it.

Was in same situation as you original poster. Customer had an Emglo with a rusted tank. After giving him options of replacement tank vs. whole new compressor he went with a new complete unit. I found ereplacmentparts.com to have cheapest price for Jenny (Emglo) tanks. http://www.ereplacementparts.com/je...-compressor-parts-c-123024_123026_123374.html If you call Jenny air, they will help you out with any part numbers also.

So I have a k2 emglo pump with a busted tank in my garage. :) one day I'll fix it up.

If you're going to spend 400 plus freight on a new tank, might as well spend a little more on the big HF compressor.

Lots of good tanks out there. Check them for rot and water accumulation before you buy.

I'll inspect the pump. Thanks for the tip.

So up sizing the tank from 17gal to say 30gal or so is a non issue?

Jenny/Emglo pumps are typically very good although known to fail. I bought one for parts that was both puking oil and had inches of rust in the outlet tank. Tank size is a non-issue. It will affect your use/refill times but pump/motor won't care if its 17 30, or 60 gallon. The Jenny/Emlgo K pumps are way better than anything HF ever dreamed of selling. I second calling Jenny or ereplacmentparts if you need anything. Ereplacementparts ships out of UT... fast delivery for this side of the country.

Shop CL for vertical tank with crappy oil-less compressor in the 20 to 33 gallon range. Often these loud screamers are on CL for a song in the $100 to $150 range, or less.

Your Emglo compressor will be fine with the larger tank.

Be sure to keep habit of draining water from tank daily.

Cool, thanks guys. Looks like I can get a new 20 gallon stand up tank for $149 from surplus center.

yup that's what I did with the pump and engine from my wheelbarrow tank set after I got tired of chasing pinholes with my torch and brazing rod, I put that pump and engine on a Crapsman oilless tank that the motor had died on.
