Emmert Pattern Makers Vise

They say it is the most versitle vise ever designed and after watching a few videos, I agree. The only thing is that it was built for woodworkers. I enjoy carpentry construction but I am no cabinet maker or anything like that. But I do a lot of welding and I think this vise would be perfect to put into my new welding table design. I attached a few links to videos that show the installation and capabilites of this vise mounted on a wood bench. What if I was to bolt it to the top of my 5/8 steel plate. I know i would lose the ability of the dogs but I dont need them. Watch the videos and tell me what you think. You got to admit, this vise does everything.

Don't you dare put that Emmert Pattern Maker's Vise anywhere near a welder. It is a highly collectible, expensive and rare piece of early 1900s ingenuity. It is perfectly suited for the job it was designed for.

If you actually have one, I would be very interested in it, and would be glad to trade for a vise (or anvil) of your dreams.

I know a bunch of woodworkers that would give their left nut for one of those! Putting it anywhere near a welder would ruin the value. If you have one, sell it and buy a new welder or a dozen good vises that are intended for welding.

Lets all just calm down. If you actually watched both videos you would know that particular vise was a remake, not an original. I wasnt planning on spending years searching for an original pattern makers vise but a newly manufactured one like in the video.

They are a great vise and there are enough knock offs out there now for you to try without upsetting the woodworkers
