Alright fellas… I don’t use emoticons much, but understand that a lot fo you do.

And I guess we don’t have enough? I mean there are a couple of hundred here… And they look fine to me.

Or, do I just have the WRONG emoticons/smilies?

I need some guidance y’all…

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't either but I just figured out how to access them. Right click in the text box and select 'emoji' - (there isn't a dedicated button) Or you can use the hot key - Win+ .

I think part of the issue is the ones that are already in existing posts from the Vbulletin era now appear as just text. I don't use smilies that much, but the ones I did use now just appear as the old code.

Perhaps just add back what we had in addition to the new stuff so legacy threads don't look weird?

I really don't care either way, if it is a huge hassle, there are bigger fish to fry than emoticons.

Awe. I didn’t realize that.

I will see if I can do a find and replace on those.

Do you by chance have a link to one of these posts? No big Deal if not, I can’t find one…

Ryan,

If you go to the end of my first post in this thread:

The emoticon used to be the "pimp flash" one, now it is just a weird hybrid of a smile I didn't use plus some extra text.

A lot of us who use emojis (yes, I am one) knew the typed codes for the old board, so when I typed, for example, : beer : (without the spaces, of course) we had the 2 emojis clinking beer mugs... Now they're different, sometimes convoluted, and can even mess up the (non-emoji'd) message by putting in something totally unexpected... I'm not sure what might (or not) pop up if I tried to involke my enraged lassen ": Firedevil" or tried to get on or off my ": soapbox", but I sure do miss those options...

I know the old list is long, but is there any way of importing it, lock, stock, and barrel, to the new board? Between my buds brandishing an uzi or pistol or flamethrower, to good old Kodos floating there, it made this a bit more entertaining and (in some instances) descriptive... Plus it would re-translate the prior-to-transition emojis back to where they came from...

Thanks from the gallery of peanuts...

Not sure… I feel like I need to promote someone who is a smilie guru of some kind.

The conversion from Vb to Xf changes the emoticon library there are different plug in packages but I don't believe any are the exact same as Vb.
My personal favs are actually Gifs found on very few sites these days.

At the risk of sounding like so many others bitching about old forum vs new. I really did like the simple old smilies. Simple two-dimensional stuff like thumbs up, dunno/shrug, beer, ect. were my favorite.

I don't really think more is the answer. There was probably 10 or 15 smileys that got used most of the time on the old forum. I looked through the new ones and while there are a lot, I don't think I would ever use 99% of them.

I think the new smileys are similar to the ones on messenger on my phone. I don't really like any of them so I've never used them.

I was patiently waiting to see where this would end up and all the old ones are back. I REALLY like the new site but hated the new smilies so thank you very much for letting all of us stubborn old bulls keep a little of the old world :)

How do I find these old-school smiles?

I just found the new ones (which I don't love), which almost seem to have more to do with my phone / app than this site / platform?

I'm using an Android with Chrome. Boring, I know...

(Yes, I know this is an old thread...)

Thanks.

I just use the ones built into my phone's keyboard (SwiftKey is my app of choice). Way easier than looking through the forum software

Not seeing that. The font options are also grayed out, I have no idea why. This is a Samsung Galaxy, if that matters.

Clicking on the smiley face gives me this.

I don't recall it ever NOT being grayed out. Maybe there's a setting somewhere, but I can't find it.

I see far less than 100 of the old school ones. A bunch more of the modern ones. I think the old ones had more character.
