I have an old Empire fireplace heater in my garage and 2 weeks ago the flame went out, I thought nothing of it just thought low on propane, but this week when I tried to light it nothing! Has propane just won't light. any tricks or things I might be able to do to check it out or get it working only use it on the weekends and it going to be cold this weekend and I got alot of work to do. Is there a way to by pass something so I could just light it! Like I said it's old and don't want to spend a fortune to have someone come to the house to fix it. Any help would be great. Or maybe someone close by in Central NJ to stop by and have a look and tell me whats wrong! Thanks

There is an issue with one of the safety sensors shutting the system down. Either a sensor needs replacement, or there are other issues that need to be addressed by a professional. The thing that needs to be "by-passed" would be the pilot safety cut off system. You cannot by-pass it and if you did, you render it unsafe to operate and could burn down your house and kill your family and neighbors......and also, if you by-pass the safety systems, your insurance company will not pay either....IF you survive.

With that said, it could be a clogged pilot assembly or a bad thermocouple.

Sorry to come across so hard, but I am in the fireplace industry and have seen DIY "fixes" go very wrong. Fortunately the ones I've been called out to investigate only resulted in a suntan on one side of their face and singed eyebrows.
