Empty space, need ideas

What can I do with the empty space above my garage door? Seems to be a lot of potential storage that I could really use, just need to figure out the best way to utilize. Any suggestions, pics or other would be appreciated.

I got some of those closet shelf brackets. The heavy duty type. Put them up to store pipe or wood trim. Long length stuff .

How much space above it?

This board has had pictures of a tire rack above it (shut off the power to the garage door opener before getting on a ladder and getting them down.

If you have exposed rafters (unattached garage), put board/pipe, etc. across and fill in the spots.

Build a small loft (doesn't have to be deep). Get some block and tackles and make a shelf/bench, etc that comes down.

I think there's always something that can be done with that extra few square feet of space - but it depends on how much space we're talking about between the door and the ceiling, exposed rafters, etc...but you could store all kinds of stuff up there.

I stored my golf club hard travel cases above mine in my old house. Great place for 'em.

in one of my past garages I had about a foot and a half above the garage door.
I built hanging racks made from 2x4s that were the same depth as the garage door was when it was open. there were two racks, one on either side of the garage door opener.
one side was my lumber rack and the other side held latters and misc long stuff like spare pipe and such

I only have about a foot above mine, but it is where the ladders go.
Small screw eyes into the joists and then those oversized, square, "S" hooks that are meant to go over the joists go into the eye and under the end rungs.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. It looks like I have just over a foot so the ladder idea will help alot. I also bought a 10x10 shed for the back yard to move the yard tools to free up some additional space, hope to have it assembled this weekend. I may also try to add some wire shelving for the golf clubs and misc (holiday decorations) on one side above the gargage door.

Wood shed 10x10 for yard tools. I plan on adding an overhang on one side so I can store my smoker out of the weather.

E-tek, I'd watch out for those plastic sheds in your Saskatchewan winters... touch it and it might shatter.
