EMT conduit assembly question

How do you tighten the conduit end when it enters the back of the box? When it comes in from the side I hammer on the "nut" with a screw driver end. But, in the back you can't do that.

I take pliers and turn the fitting on the outside of the box on ones that are difficult to get on the nut inside. Then I tighten the setscrew last.

If you can't come up with a solution to that problem you should hire an electrician...it's in your best interest.

Hand tighten then I use the side of my screwdriver and hit that with my linesmans

Install fitting in box finger tight at 90 degrees to where you want it to end up, then tighten with channel locks on the outside the remaining 90 degrees. That's how I install them regardless of where they're located. Hammer and screwdriver is a pain, and is hard on screwdrivers and other equipment beating on the box.

I've used 12 point sockets to tighten them on occasion. I'm not sure what size i think a 1 inch socket fits a 1/2" lock nut.

Ha ha, yeah, I've been getting it done, but I figured the professionals had a purpose built tool for the job or something.

I hear ya. If the box isn't screwed down tight, you knock the box out of the wall before you get the nut tight. I have one screw driver I've sacrificed for this. It's handle is pretty beat up. Come to think of it, I did buy a Greenlee plier thing for tightening these nuts but it does't work too well for me (and is not useful for back-of-the-box anyway)

Well I can say I've never seen those.

I do have the channel lock pliers for nuts
