Enclosed Trailer Outlet Box

Several months ago, I got some advice on wiring my enclosed trailer for a 115v plug. I used a marinco outet on the outside:

I wired up through the inside wall and into a GFCI inside a metal box. I plugged my extension cord in and nothing.

It was getting dark so I had to quit for the night but besides checking connections, do I need to ground to the trailer somehow? I dont think I do and think it is just a loose connection or possibly a bad GFCI.

I tripped the GFCI breaker and tested--no luck.

If you used a 3 wire extension cord AND wired everything correctly, your outlet should be grounded already. Your outlet box should have three wires from the panel mount plug to the GFIC. Either the wiring is wrong, the extension cord is bad, or there is no power where the cord plugged into.

Here we have a requirement for double insulated power points in something like that.

I'll double check everything. I have power through the extension cord so that is not the issue.

I'll have the get my meter out and check where I have power and where it stops. My guess is outlet since it was getting dark and I was getting tired.

Wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything I was unaware of.

What is the depth of that outlet box? And how does the wiring connect to it? How does it attach to the exterior skin of the trailer?

I've been looking for a suitable outlet for my enclosed car trailer but most everything I have seen is deeper than the wall thinckness of the trailer.

And the website link shows that outlet as being "out of stock".

I've put in about 10 gfcis and wired about 8 of them backwards! Now I leave the yellow sticker on and wire the line side first!

If GFCIs are wired correctly then the first one protects all those outlets downstream from it.

Easy way to remember when you are wiring any outlets is you always want your return (common slot is larger in an outlet) bigger than the source! Otherwise it defeats logic!
