Enclosing Steel Building Lean-To

Hello,

I have a 1500 sq. ft. insulated steel building that has a lean-to on it (about 10' x 25') that I am thinking on enclosing. My thought is to insulate it and then either pipe in my HVAC or to vent the adjoining wall so that I don't end up with a sweat box. I won't be able to put a door on the inside due to the diagonal cables running on that wall so my door will be outside.

My intentions are to move my DC and air compressor into the space and to also store misc. logs and bowl blanks for turning on the lathe. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has done something similar. Thanks.

Sounds like a good idea. I have something similar, but not on your scale. I have one wall vent to the main shop, and depend on the DC to provide the air circulation.

I would use the spray foam insulation, about 2-3". I would also put in a 9-10' overhead door in that wall. You can brace up and reconnect cables to door braces or add some C perling. Too handy not to have a door.

I already have a roll up door on that wall so can'i lose anymore wall space. I will take another look though as you suggest to figure out where I can reconnect the cables.

The cable braces can not be interrupted. If you want to make open space in that bay you can install a portal frame. Another option is to relocate the cable braces into another bay. How are you planning to close in the walls?

I'll be framing out the lean-to, insulating with batt and using some type of external sheathing. I haven't decided whether or not to go with steel like the rest of the building, Hardi, or something else.
