Enco Drill Press belt question

I have an older Enco Drill Press, model number 126-2235. It is a a 1"hp rig. The whole unit is in great shape, I have cleaned everything and made it look/function like new.

The question I have is about belts. The belts the unit came with are not right as there is not enough throw in the adjustment to tighten the belts in all "gears". I am wondering if anyone out there on GJ has the same Enco model and can let me know the lengths of their belts.

I know I can do the hit and miss with a handful of belts or use an anti-vibration link belt to get them dialed in, but I was hoping I could get a quick and easy answer here first!

Also - I called Enco, because they do not carry the 126-2235 anymore they cannot provide me with technical information. Lame.

I have the ENCO 4005 model and it had the same problem. I could not get the belts tight in all speed ranges. I took the middle pulley out and had the slots machined 3/8" longer. This extra travel was enough to get the belts tight.

PT Doc - you are right the casting is the same on many other tools, Buffalo and Cummins brands come to mind - basically any of the importers from the 1980-90s. The problem is the motor (base to center of rotor) and pulley diameters differ slightly. I will work on uploading some pictures.

I just raided the local fleet farm belt section.. going to see if I can get a set to fit and return the rest!

Any one know about the Performance Tough drill press model 1791-D-17? It is 1.5 HP. Is the Performance Tough company still there? Thanks

I don't have an Enco drill press, but I am familiar with the Jet 17" drill press which has 2 belts. The drill press has 2 Chinese made A28 belts on it. What I found is that if I purchase an A28 from a reputable maker such as Optibelt, Dayco, Gates... that the belt is too short. Or was it to long.. my old age is affecting my memory..

In any case you should be able to measure out your current belts and get something slightly longer. I found that I had to use 2 belts of different sizes to get the correct length which would allow a little slack in all speeds.
