In addition to assorted sizes of straight pipe wrenches, do you find the end pipe wrench to be useful in some cases?

I already have a "set" of straight wrenches ranging from 6" up to 24" but found out with a recent project that having a pair of identical sizes would have been handy. I'm talking about the commonly used sizes such as 10", 14" and 18" wrenches. Should I think about buying end pipe wrenches in these common sizes or just buy second set of straight wrenches?

I've looked at the Ridgid end wrenches and am having a hard time imaging a situation where an end wrench would come in play.

I picked up a Reed ARWO14 aluminum "90 degree offset" pipe wrench at a garage sale last spring. I had never used one before and have found that having the opening in line with the handle gives me access in places I can't get to with a standard pipe wrench.

The Rigid "end" pipe wrench is built completely different than the Reed, and I don't see that it has a big advantage over a standard pipe wrench.

Check out the Reed before you make a decision. They make 14" and 18" versions.

End pipe wrenches are really handy in tight spaces. I use mine more as back wrenches than for actually turning or loosening pipe. They are worth their weight in gold if you are doing a repair in a meter pit.

I use mine daily, but I'm a plumber. I think everyone should have atleast 1. I would recommend the 14 inch.

I work on steam generators in health clubs and such, all 1" pipe & fittings. Couldn't get by w/o my 18" end wrench. I, too, use it mostly as a back wrench.

When you say you use the end pipe wrench more as a "back wrench", was that meant as to hold the pipe/fitting while you use the straight to tighten/loosen the connection?
