End-wrench rolls

I'm trying to find the perfect container for end wrenches.

It's an absolute requirement for me to have the whole set of end wrenches together so I can grab the whole set and take it to whatever I'm working on. Individual cut-outs in my toolbox don't work for me at all. Wrenches hanging on pegboard don't work for me at all. I need to keep the whole set together and portable.

All the proprietary holders that GearWrenches, etc come in, are usually cheap plasticky things that are too hard to snap wrenches in and out of, or they are really just intended for display, or they don't work with other wrenches, or they are odd sizing and sequencing so they don't work with my current set, or whatever.

When I was a kid my dad had a canvas cloth thing that his wrenches went in, and he rolled them up and tied them. I'm starting to think this is a pretty smart method. Doesn't take up a lot of space, works with any wrenches, easy-ish to pull wrenches in and out...

Where can I buy those kind of pouch holders, and are there other/better types of holders I should be aware of?

^ There are a bazillion different types of "wrench rolls" and "tool rolls" on the market - anywhere from $15 bucks up to several hundred.
All depends upon what you're looking for.
If you start running Google searches for them, your computer will be bombarded with ads for similar products.
The more of them you add to your ebay.com "Watch List", the more will appear in your feed, and the prices will start getting lower. (Works for me every time.)
Check Tekton or Bucket Boss or...
ebay cheapie for $23 bucks but it's only 10 inches long, so not worth a damn for long wrenches or screwdrivers.
similar bag, 13 inch width $33 bucks
^ I am using something similar to that second one - holds quite a bit of stuff.

avoid leather - leather tool rolls make tools rust.

all that stuff in the photo below (except the little socket set) fits into that roll-up thing:

I had a leather wrench roll that was bulky when rolled up. I ended going with this:

Had it for about 6 months. Gets thrown into my toolbag often. Top flap covers the entire wrench of the standard snap on metric wrenches. Holds 7mm-21mm.

Those should come in neon orange, not camouflage. I already have enough trouble with tools disappearing as soon as I set them down.

Atlas46.com is like tactical gear for your tools  It's not cheap but, it's very well made and will outlast you.

I don't know what size of wrench set you're looking to store. They also have a 20 slot roll.

Good luck in your quest

I thought about getting a sewing machine...
As an aside, get a sewing machine. After sewing elastic into my gettin'-dirty pants it became clear just how high a priority piece of equipment it was. No skill required. I sewed a patch of woven elastic to each side then cut the denim underneath.

I still don't know how to sew properly, but damn if my pants ain't comfy.

I've had my Step 22 for at least 5 years and love it. This is my truck roll and goes with me on the road.
Can't beat the quality but is pricey. I bought an extra wrench roll so I could carry SAE and Metric.

WTH is an "end wrench"?

And yes, I'll agree that a tool roll, assuming "end wrenches" are compatible, is a great solution. Tool rolls also keep tools from rattling and from getting damaged when carried in vehicles.

As to materials, canvas, heavy waxed cotton, or nylon seem to work best. Leather can work as long as it's oiled (like a gun holster).

I keep several tool rolls in equipment and have found the Harbor Freight rolls to be solid contenders. Bulky and not my first choice for feel, they do hold wrenches up to 15/16ths and have a very important feature, a cover flap.

I’ve abandoned all my rolls that don’t have a flap on them to keep tools from sliding out the end. I think Bucket Boss has a good mixed use roll with pockets along both outside edges and cover flaps but it’s not as convenient for just wrenches. I’ll double check on that.

Option C, I have several dedicated wrench tool rolls on order from a local group that teaches kids to sew. I showed the leader what I wanted and bought a HF canvas tarp for material. She also offered to try one in Denim for me. The leader liked the idea as a good project for the boys taking her class.

Acid speeds up rusting, most leather is acidic.

At least that'd be my guess as to how.
It’s actually the tanning process that is the problem. Vegetable tanned leather is supposed to be better. I have had a home made leather cover in my adze for a decade or more, still no issues.
Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks, I learn something new every day in this forum!

Good to know I'm not the only one who has no clue what that is. I thought it was due to the language barrier.
It’s the commonly used term for a combination wrench around here. I grew up referring to them as end wrenches, and still do. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone call them a combination wrench in person, only online.

This $10 one I have rolls up tight. One of the things I like about it since it lives in a little Milwaukee bag.

Just a coincidence that I read this today. I was just thinking about a tool roll for files and maybe punches. I've got some leftover canvas from another project, shouldn't be too hard to whip something up.

My experience with wrench rolls, and tool rolls in general, is that the only ones that are any good are ones made specifically for their contents. That can be by the manufacturer, or for/by the end user. Doing it yourself lets you fit the wrenches thet you need, as compactly as possible. Ready made stuff holds too much or too little, are too tight ot too loose, etc.

I do find them a useful way to hold wrenches when working out of a bag, keeps them together, makes it easy to grab the right one, see what is missing, etc. they do get wet, etc, in bad weather, so that can be a problem for some people.

You too, huh?

Wait, what?! How and why?
Not a clue. Ordered a fancy knife online that came with a leather sheath. Made in India. Came with "instructions" telling me to not store the knife in the leather sheath, as it would cause it to rust.
I'm not a metallurgist. It sounded nutty to me, because (like @RTM) I have some cutting edges that are kept in leather... so WTH?
Apparently it's a matter of how the leather is treated/tanned.
All my leather is doped up with Obenauf's LP, so it's not an issue here.
YMMV

Been wanting this one:
Are you going to be able to lift it when it's fully loaded?

I need one. I have a couple dozen nice punches and chisels in a cardboard box right now. Go figure.
I am assuming you're referring to this one?

When I want a tool roll I look two places to start these days. Atlas46 and Tekton. Atlas is nicer but more expensive. Tekton has so many different types start with one that looks close.

Anyone have a wrench roll dedicated to the stubby length ?
Tekton does... I ordered one,

That tool roll is this:

I also ordered SAE tool roll, but have not tried it because the OLSA Tools SAE wrenches are still out of stock; I expected them in stock middle of last month.

I ordered a different version of the tool roll that was supposed to arrive yesterday, but it was delayed, probably because of the snow. I have something in this order for my Secret Santa Victim! I ordered this other one because I wanted one with fewer slots because I gave up on Olsa Tools getting the wrenches in stock soon and ordered from Snap-On and that set has fewer wrenches.

I grabbed them from Snap-On. 8 pc 12-Point SAE Midget 15° Offset Box Flex-Head Ratcheting Combination Wrench Set (5/16-3/4") (Blue-Point®)

Hope this helps!

Thanks guys, off to the Tekton site. For those that haven't been on their site,it's easy to navigate, very informative, and they ship very fast. They also have pages of blemish tools etc.I got the feel for Tekton at the Mid America Truck Show in Louisville in March of this year. They had a large display set up where you could handle and inspect, talk and ask questions to the reps.I ordered a 1/4 ratchet that included free shipping.A couple days later,I received it.They have a very nice 65 page paper catalog they gave me at the show.
And one month later, the ratchet was on the work bench in New Zealand at the Son In Laws. This year hoping to check out line wrenches as he just purchased a New Holland Tractor with bucket and mower on back.Lots of hydraulic lines in cramped locations. The stubby wrench roll is for me,line wrenches might be better utilized and kept in roll in N.Z in the tractors tool box.And tools in N.Z are very expensive and sometimes hard to find, that's where Tekton might shine
