Enderes quality

I needed a new 3/8” shaft center punch so I thought I’d try Enderes this time. The Wilde I’ve been using has held up well but the mushrooming is becoming too much.

So I grabbed a few off eBay and when they showed up I was not impressed. Clearly ground freehand, very uneven and off center. Is this typical of their current production? I want to support an American company, especially one saved from bankruptcy, but if this is their quality I can’t do it.

Every punch I own has a freehand ground tip. It may not have started out that way, but they always end up that way.

I'm less than impressed with my Enderes tools also. I want to like them and try to support USA made products but I have to be honest.
Same goes for USA made Dasco I've owned.

Ugh, Dasco is ****. But their issue is using **** steel. My Enderes punches and chisels are by no means the prettiest, but the steel is fairly good.

I've only ever really used Snap off, Proto, and Mayhew punches and chisels on a regular basis, but I wouldn't be too picky. As long as the quality of the steel is decent, you're good to go. You're going to have to re sharpen the centre punch tip anyways by hand.

A little tip for sharpening them. Chuck them up in a drill and run it in the opposite direction your grinding wheel or belt is turning.

I've always found the finish to be rough but the quality to be excellent. Like others have said, it's a striking tool (or a tool that gets struck).
