The regulators required removal of mercury from alkaline batteries in 1996. The mercury limited the hydrogen build up which pressurizes the case and increases the chance of leak.

Stop using alkaline batteries. They are trash regardless of brand. Lithium while more expensive is safer and longer lasting.

NiMH rechargeables in everything.

Agree, alkalines have been trash for 15+ years. There just aren't any brands you can trust anymore.
