Engine driven welder that can double as a generator

Hi all.

Looking at getting a welder that can double as a generator. Can I find one that I can next to my house panel in case of emergency?

Pretty much any gas engine-driven welder can do it I think. They are pricey though.

This is what I use.

Pricey. If I had to start over would use a cheaper generator and power an inverter when I wanted to weld, half the cost, maybe less. Can use the welder from line power, 120/240 and welding from 120 is super handy.

225 G Miller with an Onan . Over 20 years old. So I think it paid for itself several times over. We're using it every week day at the moment. You won't be sorry if you buy a good one.

It's a pretty narrow question. Is is something needed in that capacity, does it just sound like a good idea, how long does it need to run? How much power does it need, how much welding of what type, want to use it a little or mind 20 gallons of fuel a day?
Welders are tough, they run heavy motors, pricey to operate. Costly when a small amount is needed.

I’m gonna go for just a generator as it’s a 1/3 of the cost and see what I need for there.

Good choice! I recently picked up a used Makita genset to use for house backup power INSTEAD of the Lincoln 305.

keep an eye on auctions. I bought my 325 Trailblazer for $1200 with 23hrs on it. I looked at it online and watched the video the auction company posted of it running. The auctioneer didn't know how to turn it on to show the hours, or start it, so they sold it as is.
