What load leveler do you all recommend? I'm seeing tons of reviews saying to stay away from the Harbor Freight one. I've also got a friend that has used the Duralast one from Autozone with very poor results. So I know to stay away from the cheap ones, but which ones are actually good? I'll be lifting anything from pickup truck motors to small 4 cylinder Honda motors, so I'd like to get one that's pretty strong.

The handle job is a new product, not used personally. Not sure the fixed handle in an advantage and here is why (MO). A ratchet can be removed, or backed up repositioned, better leverage more control. Shoehorning a motor into a hole needs control with the up and down (engine hoist) and angle (load leveler) in concert.

No issues with the Hf one lifting a fully dressed duramax engine.

Handle is a bit odd but I'll spend more money on something I use more than once every 100 days..

The older models of the HF one were complete garbage (around 7-8 years ago). This was mainly due to the lead screws stripping out.

The newer manufactured ones are pretty decent, just make sure to grease the lead screw.

Mine is older than that I'm pretty sure, and grease before use is key to most any HF thing with moving parts.

I always did want to try an Oberg tilt lift though.

I have one similar to the harbor freight. The handle won't turn after a certain amount of angle, especially if you set the angle then lift the motor out to change something. I'll be welding in a 3/4" nut so I can use a ratchet.

I use the OTC 4305 style. Very easy to adjust under load. Pulled an engine trans, and transfer case in one shot a short while ago. Took very little effort to adjust level even with all that hanging from it.
