I've been on the internet for about an hour trying to find a wider leveler. I'm trying to find one at least 22" from chain to chain, but IF they give any dimensions it total overall including the handle. Anyone have some input.....

Just measured mine,,,it is 20.75 " from chain to chain.
I got mine at Harbor Frieght.

I would think you can find a larger size,,,if i see something i can post it.

FYI,,it is nice to find a "bolt" or fitting instead of the handle,,,that you can put a impact wrench on,,,,,makes lifting and lowering stuff much easier than trying to crank the handle over with the motor up in the air on the cherry picker....

my other one has a bolt but it's only 15.5" chain to chain. I had to put rags under the chain on my 390 and I didn't like it (old edelbrock intake). So wider is needed, thanks for the post and keep'em coming.

I also found an adjustable otc one for diesel I think but at $1000 I'll pass.

Why does it have to be 22"? The chain spread is only 1 " on ether side with the Harbor Freight LL that 69chargermd has. That does not put a lot of load on the ends. If you need it bigger just buy the Harbor Freight LL and modify it.

I'll have to go and check that one out. I wasn't sure if the total 22.75 was including the handle. Need to set it close to the hoist as the hood is going to stay on, but the nose is coming off.

I will say,,,,I didnt use my engine leveler last time i pulled the motor,,,I used a motor plate,,,and it worked fine,,,you can place the cherry picker in various hole locations on the motor plate,,,
I had someone help "tilt" the motor as needed,,,,,went pretty smooth.......

This one looks real trick,,,you can actually use it as a motor plate "leveler",,,,

it's a '54 ford panel truck and I'm going it solo. I figure if I pull the radiator and the air deflectors (basicly the whole nose), I could lift it out of the cradle and then straight out. I was worried about the motor plate because the weight of the 390 and C6 on an old edelbrock intake.

I feel your pain - I wish my leveler was longer, too. I have to rags as a softener to lift the new small block I had built last year.

I'm expecting to race this year for the first time since '05.

btw - I hate those dyno headers - I run zoomies.

I have not had or seen any issues using the motor plate weight wise, I have used it pulling my 440 and 727 trans. Plus it is good if you have tight height issues, for ex hood has to stay on. A extra set of hands would help....good luck

^^^^I agree about the weight concerns - do the math. I've seen Hemi/Torqueflite combo's lifted with a plate, and I'm sure that outweighs a 390.

The leveler does give you a lot of adjustability during installation though.

the only reason i like the leveler over the plate is...
i drop my engine and trans in as an assembly....you wont be able to control the angles with a plate...

My buddy removes and installs engines alone all the time. He marks the hinge position on the hood, removes the front (forwardmost) bolts and loosens the rear bolts, then uses a piece of rope to hold the hood as straight up as possible. When he's done he just lines up the hinges and tightens the bolts - no second person required. He's done this for over 25 years and has never had a problem.

I'm thinking so he has better control of front to back and side to side movement.

yup, the FE and the C6 are HEAVY. the heads only have 1 hole on the face (so chain would be on front of one head and the rear of the other head) and it's an old eldelbrock intake. the hood stayed on because the f100 hoods like to break the welded nuts for the hinges, so it needed to be low slung, very controllable and solid.
