a few months ago I was looking for some engine stand plans to build a new stand. I found squat... and lots of folks said just buy one from blah blah blah. All the ones I could afford worked just like mine... it didn't. Bound up, shakey, scary to roll...

I finally found a set of plans which sorta suited me and I just stole what I liked and made the changes I wanted and here's what I got. Some of you might find it useful.

Wow. Very impressive, and I agree with how people tell you, "Just buy blah blah blah".

I'd like to know where he got the gear box... let alone where he found one for $15.

They are out there. I have bought 6 of them off ebay for various projects. Just have to keep looking. I tend to buy things I don't need right away if they are a good deal because when you need one you won't be able to find one for a decent price!

Nice stand! I started a thread on here a couple months ago about something similar. I would love to do the bearing idea but I don't have a lathe so that is out. What I came up with was using a hub and bearing and part of the CV shaft out of a car. And then attaching one of my gear boxes to that, thinking by chain. Would be nice to have a machine shop to be able to make a simple bearing setup like you did but I have to think out of the box until then.

Brad, gearbox was a craigslist find... guy had a couple dozen of them in a storage building... he said name a price... so I did... this was the smallest one he had.

Dan I had one before that was a bearing stand... neighbor borrowed it... when he was finished I said just keep it at your house till I get time to come get it... his b-i-l borrowed it... ok, still in the family... then his neighbor borrowed it and it left he state :shocking: never to be seen at my garage again... this one stays in the yard
