Picked these up at a sale and need some help identifying them. I think there used to hone valve seats but not sure My car mechanic skills are oil changes, brake changes and a few clutches.
Not hones, but valve seat cutters. The shafts with the threaded ends are pilots, in different sizes to fit different valve guide sizes. Probably don't have much use or value nowadays, possibly might be useful to open up a seat for a larger valve before finish grinding. Seats are pretty much just ground today, or probably CNC machined.
I have a similar set, but not nearly that many valve guide pilots. I've used it to recut the valve seats of many, many motorcycle engines, and also Model A Ford valve seats, too.
can't tell if they are carbide or not, but keep in mind, there are lots of those sets still being sold today (most from India for some reason), and even many of the older ones are not for hardened valve seats.
I have a few just like those and looked into buying a set to complete it. almost everything I saw was noted as not for hardened seats. unless you get into the modern neway cutters with the carbide inserts. still useful though if you work on older stuff and small engines.
